Traditional Chinese Medicine and Meridian Theories

Several practitioners have explored the connection between Reflexology and TCM Theory; these books introduce the reader to Traditional Chinese Medicine as it would relate to the practice of Reflexology:

The Art of Reflexology by Inge Dougans with Suzanne Ellis, Element Books, Inc 2002 ISBN 1852302364. Dougans approaches the connection of Chinese Meridian Theory and Foot Reflexology. The author explores protocols and techniques to access and stimulate the meridians and points located on the feet. Specific conditions are shown with case histories.

The New Reflexology by Inge Dougans, Da Capo Press 2006, ISBN 1569242895. An update and expansion on The Art of Reflexology by the same author.

Moving the Energy: Reflexology and Meridian Therapy by Lilian Tibshraeny-Morten, JLM Publishing 2008, ISBN 0976892227. Introducing Tibshraeny-Morten’s Wand Reflex™ Method this book offers treatment protocols and extensive charts and diagrams of how TCM and Meridian Therapy integrate into a Reflexology session.

Spiritual Reflexology and Energy Theory

From Foot Reading to Gemstones, these books explore the Mind and Spirit aspects of Mind, Body, Spirit theories used in Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Language of the Feet by Chris Stormer, Hodder and Stoughton 1995 ISBN 0340643455.

Stormer interprets spiritual, mental and physical traits found on the feet through what is now called foot reading.

Gemstone Reflexology by Nora Kircher, Healing Arts Press 2006, ISBN 1594771219. A good primer on gemstones and their use in a Reflexology session; also a good introduction to color therapy for Reflexologists.

Spiritual Reflexology: Spiritual Gifts of the Body by Deborah Ardel Hill, Deborah Ardel Hill Enterprises 1999, ISBN 0967206804. This book explores the spiritual and emotional connection to disease and discomforts. A directory of organs and parts describes the spiritual function of that part.

Finding Your Feet: How the Sole Reflects the Soul by Ann Gadd, Findhorn Press 2006, ISBN 1844090817. Summarizes Foot Reading theories from Chris Stormer, Jane Shaheen and Imre Somogyi.

Reflexology History

These books are good staples for a Reflexologist’s shelves as references.

The Original Works of Eunice D. Ingham by Eunice D. Ingham and Dwight C. Byers, Ingham Publishing Inc. 1984, ISBN 0961180439.

Body Reflexology by Mildred Carter, Simon and Schuster Ltd. 1983, ISBN 0130796816. The author explores Reflexology theories applied beyond the traditional Foot, Hand and Ear maps.

Advanced Techniques and Practice Management

Great reference books and ways to continue the education of the Reflexology practitioner.

Reflexology: The Definitive Practitioner’s Manual by Beryl Crane, Thorsons Publishers 1997, ISBN 1862041253. A staple for a Reflexologist’s office bookshelf, Ms. Crane’s extensive training and experience in the field shines through in this book.

Practical Reflexology: Interpretation and Techniques by Susan Watson and Valerie Voner, Career Education 2008, ISBN 0073510955. A textbook for Reflexology schools this is a valuable book for those going into teaching.

Total Reflexology: The Reflex Points for Physical, Emotional and Psychological Healing by Martine Faure-Alderson, Healing Arts Press 2008, ISBN 1594772479. The English edition of this French doctor’s manual on her Cranio-Sacral Reflexology method. Dr. Faure-Alderson has been practicing Reflexology since the 1960s.
